Exhibitions and Events
Frome, where I live, has a strong artistic community with artists in studios and outlets across the town. The Black Swan Arts Gallery has an ambitious programme of exhibitions throughout the year and local cafes such as La Strada, Dining Diva's, and The Garden Cafe showcase artist's work on a regular basis. The Merlin and Memorial Theatres in Frome run a busy programme of quality performances. Frome has its own community based festival that runs annually in July, putting the spotlight on the wealth and variety of talent in Frome as well attracting top performers across music, dance, theatre and art. Frome Festival includes an artists Open Studios event over both weekends of the festival.
There are a number of open studio events across the counties of Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset at different times, giving artists a chance to exhibit their work locally and visitors plenty of opportunity to see original artwork in their local area. In the bordering county of Wiltshire, the Cloth Road Arts Trail, covering predominantly west Wiltshire, runs its open studios event bi- annually in May (next 2010). Somerset Art Works organises Somerset Art Weeks Open Studios Event every September. The Wylye Valley Art Trail, covering south Wiltshire runs bi-annually in May (next 2011). Dorset Arts Week runs in May/June bi-annualy (next 2010).
FromeFM - Interview
Frome has it's own community on-line radio station, broadcasting 7 days a week. There are 65 new programmes to listen to, a month. With a vast range of topics covered, it's well worth visiting the site and having a flick through the shows and picking something that looks like it might be interesting or fun to stop for, sit back and listen a while.
You'll also currently find an interview given by myself on the 'George Neilson-Toy In The Afternoon' (GNT In the Afternoon) programme, where I am chatting about my journey to my art practise, scattered with some choices of favourite music. To go and listen to this, visit the FromeFM website, then go to 'Programmes' - 'Interviews and Chat' - 'George Neilson-Toy In The Afternoon' - 'Samantha West interview'.
